Everything Everywhere Search Index: identify the details in an image, and where they point

An investigator marks a detail in an evidence photograph, such as a school crest, a tie or a blazer, and EESI matches it against reference databases of known objects. A match names what the detail is and brings back what is known about it, including where in the world it belongs. The image itself never leaves the investigator's device.

Free for law enforcement.

Search by the detail, not the whole picture

Images that matter in a case rarely carry metadata or a caption. What they do carry is detail: a crest on a jumper, a stripe on a tie, a badge on a blazer. EESI lets the investigator draw a box around that detail, or accept the boxes it suggests, and searches it against a database of reference examples.

Results come back ranked, each shown beside the reference it matched, with the reference's own record attached: name, city, region, country, website. A crest in a photograph becomes a named school on a map. Each result is a candidate for the investigator to confirm, not a conclusion, and the report EESI exports records the match alongside the finding.

School uniforms are the first reference databases in EESI. The same workflow applies to any object that can be catalogued with an image and a record, and new databases slot in without changing how an investigator works. Pick the database, mark the detail, search.

EESI analyses the image on the investigator's own machine. What travels to the server is a numeric description of the selected detail, not the picture. No image is uploaded, and no copy is held anywhere but where the investigator put it.

Where EESI sits in a case

  1. An image holds a detail that could place it or identify it, but no metadata
  2. The investigator marks the detail, or accepts EESI's suggestions, and searches
  3. EESI returns ranked matches from the reference database, each with its record and location
  4. The investigator confirms the match and exports a report that records how it was reached
