Build the tools investigators use to dismantle exploitation networks

Global Emancipation Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We're a small, remote, highly collaborative global team, and we're growing the engineering side of it. If you want your work to reach the people doing the hardest jobs in this field, start here.

Why GEN

Why you'd want to work here

The work reaches real investigations

Our tools are free to law enforcement and to under-resourced agencies anywhere in the world. What you build ends up in casework rather than in a backlog.

Being a nonprofit changes what we build

Our nonprofit status lets us direct commercial revenue toward equipping agencies that could never build this themselves. The roadmap answers to the mission rather than to growth targets.

Close to the people doing the work

We build fast and close to investigators and content moderators, and there are opportunities to travel internationally with GEN to meet, train and support partner agencies on-site.

A small team and a wide remit

Remote, wherever you live, across several products that are all evolving fast. You would own whole pieces of work end to end, alongside the wider GEN team and our partner organizations.

This is work on human trafficking and child sexual exploitation, and some roles sit close to difficult material. Protecting the people who review it is part of the brief: analyst and investigator wellness shapes what we build, and it shapes how we work too.

Senior Full Stack Developer

Remote, wherever you live

GEN builds the exploitation intelligence infrastructure that trust and safety teams, law enforcement agencies and platform partners use to dismantle child sexual exploitation and human trafficking networks. You'd work across several products, all of them evolving fast, alongside the wider GEN team and our partner organizations.

What matters most to us

  • We build fast and close to the people doing the work, from investigators to content moderators. Hardening that into software an agency or a platform relies on for years is the job, so we need someone who has shipped and supported real commercial products.
  • A deep understanding of what the tools are for, and when and why to use them. Python, React, Docker, AWS, Terraform, cloud and on-prem. Knowing why you'd pick one over another matters more to us than knowing the syntax.
  • Strong engineering judgement. You can tell good code from code that merely runs, and you know how to steer agentic tools when you use them.
  • Experience building AI-powered tools is a big bonus. Most of the job is the engineering around the models, so you'd need to be at home in that world without necessarily being the person training them.

What we offer

  • $130,000 - $160,000 USD minimum salary plus benefits, dependent upon candidate location.
  • Opportunities to travel internationally with GEN to meet, train and support partner agencies and organizations on-site.

College and post-graduate interns

Remote · Open year-round

Always open

We take college and post-graduate interns throughout the year, and we always want to hear from more. Interns here work on real problems rather than filler: past placements have covered engineering and data work, dataset research, policy, and the investigator wellness side of what we do. One of our engineers started at GEN as a volunteer working alongside investigators.

Tell us what you're studying, when you're available and what you'd like to work on, and we'll shape something around it.
