Terms of use and privacy notice

Two things to know before you use GEN's tools: what the tools are and aren't responsible for, and what we keep about you. Last updated 29 October 2026.

Using the tools

GEN's tools are free to law enforcement and provided as they are, without warranty of any kind.

The tools produce output by automated means, and it can be wrong. It may miss things, misread things, or be confidently incorrect. Global Emancipation Network is not responsible for a tool's output, or for any decision, action or case built on it.

Verify everything through other means before you rely on it. Check what a tool tells you against the source material and your own investigation. Output is a lead to follow up, not a finding in itself.

Your GEN account is for you. Don't share it, and don't pass the tools or their installers to anyone outside your agency.

You are responsible for handling material in line with your agency's rules and the law where you work.

We may change the tools and these terms. This page is always the current version, and the date at the top says when it last changed.

Your details

When you request an account we hold your name, work email address, agency and country. When you download a tool we record which account downloaded which version, when, and from which country. We collect nothing about your cases through this website.

Why we hold it. To check that requests come from law enforcement, to know who holds which tool so we can tell them about security fixes and new versions, and to keep account of where the tools have gone. We rely on our legitimate interest in running a vetted programme for law enforcement.

Where it is and who sees it. On infrastructure run for us by Amazon Web Services in the United States, seen only by the GEN staff who review requests and run the programme. We don't sell it or share it for marketing.

How long. Download records are kept for two years. Account details are kept while your account is active.

Your rights. You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to our using it, by emailing info@globalemancipation.ngo. If you are in the UK or the EU/EEA you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Global Emancipation Network, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the United States, is the controller of this information.
